Capstone
SPARC Open Education Leadership Program

My Capstone completed the – SPARC Open Education Leadership Program. The Capstone is comprised of numerous resources related to Open Educational Resource (OER) instruction and advocacy at a small liberal arts college:
- The Final Report
- "A Way to Start Supporting OER at a Small Liberal Arts College"
- This report outlines what I did for my capstone project, why I did it, and how I did it; what goals I met and where I fell short; and recommendations for others starting to develop OER at small liberal arts colleges and libraries.
- The Community Resources
- Open Educational Resources LibGuide
- In the five months since its publication in March 2021, my OER LibGuide has been the fifth most viewed Union College LibGuide (out of 79 LibGuides).
- Lecture / Presentation Slides: Introduction to OER for Librarians
- My Intro to OER presentation to Schaffer librarians helped build a library-wide OER discourse and possibly a Library OER committee to advance Library OER support.
- Lecture / Presentation Slides: Introduction to OER for Student Government
- My Intro to OER presentation to Union's student government inaugurated the first Schaffer Library—student government OER partnership.
- A Survey of Students on Course Material Costs and Concerns
- The student course material costs survey emerged from a partnership that I established between Schaffer Library, the Student Forum, and the Union College Bookstore, and it sought to gather information about the need for OER at Union.
- The survey received 329 student responses, over 16% of students; the results showed the urgent need for course materials to be made more affordable, thus providing helpful data to make the case for OER to faculty; and it solidified a partnership between the Library, student government, and Bookstore.
- All of this was entirely new for my Library: it had never before conducted a campus survey, nor had it ever partnered with our student government or our bookstore.
